Bengal Warriors have been in a good rhythm with only one loss in the last 10 matches but the only concern for them could be Maninder Singh’s fitness. It wasn’t much work for U Mumba in the eliminators as both offence and defence delivered and they won by against Haryana Steelers by wight points.

Bengal has not only won their last 19 of their last 10 encounters but also won in both matches against U Mumba this season. However they won with the margins of 3 and 2 respectively, an interesting point to note was that in both matches the top run-scorer was a different raider and not the skipper Maninder Singh. That could serve as a positive for Bengal as Maninder got injured during a match against Delhi on 30th September and haven’t played since. The above fact is also a testament to the fact the Bengal doesn’t depend on just one raider as in the first meeting K.Prapanjan was the top scorer with scored 6 points and in the second Sukesh Hegde with 8 points. Their defence has remained consistent with corners Baldev Singh(62) and Rinku Narwal(58) having scored 120 points between them. Bengal even won their last match with an all-round effort and would hope to carry the momentum in this match as well.

U Mumba won Eliminator 1 with sheer raiding power which wasn’t even given a second thought as it lacked star power but Abhishek Singh and Arjun Deshwal proved the speculators wrong in the last match. They scored 16 and 15 raid points respectively and got ousted a total of five times collectively. The defence which had been their strength seemed a little out of touch as apart from skipper Fazel Atrachali, every other defender had at least four unsuccessful tackle attempts to their name, they made a total of 19 unsuccessful attempts. Though the defence’s failures were a lot less visible because of brilliant performance by the raiding unit. However, as Bengal have a good raiding unit, their defence has to be on their toes to counter them. The momentum would surely support them as they are coming off a five-match unbeaten streak.

Key players

Maninder Singh

The skipper of the team would be their key player because as evident in past matches, his presence provides the team with confidence. Maninder is able to continuously keep the scoreboard going and that helps in alleviating pressure. He has not only scored 205 points in 20 matches but also bettered his not out percentage and set broke his personal record for most points in a single match which is now 19 raid points.

Abhishek Singh

Even though it is not Abhishek’s debut season, he got more opportunities this season and he made the most of it. He scored a total of 131 points in 20 matches. In the last match he scored 16 raid points which were very crucial for the team as their defence wasn’t at their best. In today’s match, he would be up against a resilient defence and the team would expect a similar performance from him.
