Commonwealth Shooting Championship | Prakash Nanjappa wins gold in 50m pistol event

Prakash Nanjappa helped India make a clean sweep at the Commonwealth Shooting Championship yet again on Friday in the 50m pistol event as India won all the three positions. The silver medal was claimed by Amanpreet Singh while Jitu Rai clinched the bronze medal with a third-place finish.

The Indian contingent is having a brilliant campaign at the Commonwealth Shooting Championship in Australia. After India had bagged all three medals in the 10m Air Pistol event with Shahzar Rizvi taking the gold on Wednesday, Prakash Nanjappa, Amanpreet Singh and Jitu Rai made a clean sweep in the 50m pistol event yet again on Friday.

Prakash topped the event with a score of 222.4, winning the gold medal, while Amanpreet and Jitu settled for silver and bronze medals respectively. Jitu was the first to start as he topped the qualifying round with a total of 559 points, while Amanpreet finished third with 543 points and Prakash was a spot behind with 542 points.

However, in the mains, Prakash showed composure and consistency with a steady score and got the better of Amanpreet by just 0.4 points. Jitu managed a score of 201.9 as his poor form in the elimination rounds led him to settle for a bronze.

Gagan Narang won a silver in the men’s 50m rifle prone event on Thursday. While Swapnil Suresh Kusale bagged the bronze in the men's 50m rifle prone event, in the women's 25m pistol final, Anuraj Singh won the bronze.
