Independent India’s sole Olympic gold medalist, Abhinav Bindra, was in Pune recently for the inauguration for a state-of-the-art performance management centre opened by his foundation itself. The Beijing gold medallist shooter inaugurated the physiotherapy and rehabilitation centre in the city on Monday, which is named as the Abhinav Bindra Targeting Performance (ABTP) centre.

It will be a not-for-profit project and will be managed by the Abhinav Bindra Foundation while the centre is supported by Bajaj Auto. This will be the fifth ABTP centre after Mohali, Delhi, Bangalore, and Bhubaneswar.

"The use of technology and sports science is very critical in sports not just in terms of management of injuries, but also prevention of injuries. The same concept can also be utilized for performance enhancement. Sports today is all about synchronization of mind and body and this technology here is all about it. During my sports career, I wish I had the opportunity to use the whole system which is here. I had opportunities to use certain path of the system, not all, so I feel that was the trigger to bring something back to India. I was very clear about it when I retired from sports," Bindra said as per TOI sources.

The former Olympian also added that he was fortunate to go out of the country to use hi-tech sports science technology but always wished to bring something back to the country in order to help a large section of Indian athletes who will benefit from it.

The ABTP is a top-notch centre that boasts of high-precision machines which will help in the inspection of various aspects of an athlete's body, injuries and even posture. The data generated by the machines will then be used to correct the training methods of the athlete.
