India’s Yashaswini Singh Deswal finished fourth at the summer games in Napoli with a total score of 197.7 in the women’s air pistol finals. Though she qualified second with 573, only behind Kim Minjung (582), Yashaswini later slipped to fourth as Kim leapfrogged her to the bronze medal in the end.

The Youth Olympics finalist Yashaswini carried her form into the qualifying stages of the air pistol finals to finish second in qualifying. However, her fortunes ended there as Iranians Dorsa Arabshahi and Haniyeh Rostamiyan, and the Olympic gold medallist, Kim Minjung, claimed the top three spots.

The other Indian in the competition, P. Shri Nivetha shot 566 in qualifying but missed out on a finals spot by two points. Meanwhile, India won the silver medal in women’s air rifle through Elavenil Valarivan.

Elsewhere, at the World Shotgun Championships in Lonato, Italy, Anant Jeet Singh Naruka (72) and Areeba Khan (60) shot 132 between them and were placed 26th in mixed skeet team competition. The other Indian team of Mairaj Ahmad Khan (70) and Kartiki Singh Shaktawat (59) shot 129 and placed 32nd.

However, things didn’t pan out well in the juniors event. A below par performance from the pair of Arjun Thakur (60) and Darshna Rathore (66) saw them finish 13th out of 15 team, while Gurnihal Singh Garcha (57) and Parinaaz Dhaliwal (54) came in last.
