Indian ace shooter Apurvi Chandela declared through her social media that she has climbed to the World No. 1 position in 10m Air Rifle on Tuesday after a great start to 2019. Apart from her, compatriot Anjum Moudgil has also taken her spot in the World No.2 ranking after her Beijing performance.

Chandela has started 2019 with a bang by first reaching the final at the ISSF World Cup in February where she had shot 252.9 in a thrilling final to break the World Record and win gold at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi.

She extended her form in March when she reached her fifth final in less than two years at Beijing by topping the qualification charts with 630.9 after 60 shots. However, she eventually had to finish outside the podium as she finished sixth. Consequently, she has tallied 1,926 rankings points to go to the top spot.

Apart from Chandela, Moudgil took the second place in world rankings in the 10m air rifle event after her mixed team gold feat at the ISSF World Cup in Beijing. She has tallied 1695 rating points to her name.

Five Indian shooters have secured their quotas in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic with Chandela in the 10m air rifle women, Moudgil in the 10m air rifle women, Saurabh Choudhary in the 10m air pistol men, and Divyansh in 10m air rifle men. Abhishek Verma has also secured a quota by winning his first gold in the men’s 10m air pistol event in Beijing.
