India’s sole rower Dattu Bhokanal entered the men’s singles sculls event after finishing third in the first heat of the day at Lagoa stadium in the 2016 Rio Olympics. The quarter-final stage of the event will take place on Tuesday (August 8) at 5pm at the Lagoa stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
The 25-year-old from Maharashtra started the event on a strong note and was leading the race initially, before being overtaken by Cuba’s Angel Fournier Rodriguez. The Cuban led from there and finished with a timing of 7:06:89 to enter the quarters. Army man Dattu Bhokanal is the ninth Indian rower to participate in the Olympics and had qualified for the quadrennial event a few months back by winning the silver medal at the FISA Asian and Oceania Olympic qualification regatta.
