Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna have the chance to finally secure a medal for India on day 8 when they take on Venus Williams and Rajeev Ram in the mixed doubles semifinal. The Indian women's hockey team will take on Argentina in match which could decide the last quarterfinal berth in Group B.

After another disappointing day for India, day 8 brings along the hope of finally securing a medal at what has been a disastrous Olympics so far for the nation. Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna, who defeated Andy Murray and Heather Watson in the quarters, remain India's best, and perhaps sole medal hope at the moment, and they take on the American pair of Venus Williams and Rajeev Ram in the semifinal today. A win here will guarantee the Indian pair of a medal.

In shooting, Mairaj Ahmad Khan, who finished the first day of qualification in the men’s skeet event in the tenth position with a score of 72, will be in action today, and he will need to produce something special to qualify for the semis. In men's 25m rapid fire pistol event, Gurpreet Singh, who finished the first stage of qualification in the 10th position with a score of 289 (100, 99, 90), and will look to continue his good form in a bid to qualify for the final.

The men's hockey team are through to the knockout stage, and the women's hockey team now have the chance to do so, though they will also need a bit of help from the Aussies in their quest. The women's  hockey team will face Argentina today in the must-win game. The South American nation are currently occupying the last qualifying spot in Group B with 3 points from 4 matches, and India, who have 1 point in 4 matches, can displace them with a win over here. However, they would also have to hope that Australia beat Japan, who are also vying for the 4th spot in the group.

Few more track and field athletes will be in action today. Lalita Babar and Sudha Singh will take part in women's 3000m steeplechase heats, while Nirmala Sheoran will feature in women's 400m heats.
