South Asian Games: India race past 300 medals as boxers scoop gold

The boxers made a clean sweep of all the seven gold medals on offer on day 10 of the SAG as India continued their supremacy at the top of the table with 301 medals overall. In the penultimate day of the Games, shooters ended their campaign with a staggering tally of 25 gold medals out of the 26 on offer.

At the end of day 10, India had 181 gold, 88 silver and 30 bronze in their kitty, with an overall medal tally of 299, leading Sri Lanka with 181 medals (25 gold, 60 silver and 96 bronze) and Pakistan with 100 medals (11 gold, 35 silver and 55 bronze). The hosts added two more gold medals in the morning of the last day of the competition to go past the 300-mark.

In the penultimate day of the Games, India won 21 gold medals as the pugilists dominated with 7 golds. Commonwealth Games silver-medallist L Devendro Singh, World Championships bronze-medallist Shiva Thapa, Madan Lal, Vikas Krishan, Dheeraj Rangi, Manoj Kumar and Mandeep Jangra secured the top spots for India. India also added four more gold medals in shooting, three in taekwondo and four in Judo, while the men’s and women’s kabaddi team along with the women’s football team won the other gold medals. (Also Read: South Asian Games: Nepal edge past India to win gold in football)
