Cyclist Deborah Herold is leading India's charge at the Track Asia Cup, and the 21-year-old won two gold medals in the event on Wednesday at the Indira Gandhi velodrome in New Delhi. India has won three gold medals, two silver medals, and one bronze so far in the event which concludes on Friday.

Deborah won the women's Elite 500m Time Trial event, where she is ranked 6th in the world, after clocking 35.964 sec. Malaysia's Farina Shawati and Yin Li of Hong Kong won the silver medal and the bronze medal respectively.

Deborah's second gold arrived in the Elite Team Sprint event partnering Kezia Varghese. The Indian pair faced Kazakhstan in the final where they managed a timing of 35.962 as opposed to the timing of 40.157 of their opponents.

"I had back pain for the last 10 days. I didn't do any training, was confined to my room. But competition here is not very stiff because teams from Thailand and South Korea aren't here, so I was confident," Deborah told TOI after her win.

India's third gold medal came in the women's junior Team Sprint where Nayana Priyadarshini and Anu Chutia beat Uzbekistan in the final with a timing of 37.452. The trio of Sanuraj P Sanandaraj, Emerson and Sachin Desai won the silver medal, India's only medal in the men's section, in the Junior Team Sprint event, while Rajkumari Devi won the bronze in the women's Elite Pursuit 3 km event after her opponent gave a walkover.

India is current leading the medals tally alongside Malaysia as we head into the second day of the 3-day event.
