Amla’s 103 coupled with Tahir's 4/27 helped the South Africa secure a 96-run victory over Sri Lanka. AB de Villiers failed to perform with the bat In the match, but he assured the Proteas defended 299, with an extraordinary run-out which send Dinesh Chandimal back to the pavilion.

After sending Kusal Mendis to the dressing room taking a one-handed stunner, AB de Villiers gave his team a much-needed breakthrough in the form of Chandimal’s wicket. 

This incident happened during the 18th over of the Sri Lanka’s innings, with Imran Tahir bowling to Chandimal. The Sri Lankan struck the ball firmly to mid-off but the South African captain anticipated the shot and moved swiftly to his right from extra cover to slide and get a hand to the ball.

He then quickly recovered to run a few paces to pick up the ball and hit the stumps with a direct hit at the bowler’s end to catch Chandimal at least a feet short of his ground. The ground umpire sent this decision to the third umpire and replays made it was clear that de Villiers had completed a brilliant run-out. This was the turning point in the match yesterday as Chandimal was sent packing for just 12 runs, and South Africa went on to register a 96-run win.
