Indian men and women Throwball teams win Gold in World Games

The Indian men's and women's throwball teams created history by clinching gold medals in the World Games held at Kathmandu. While the men’s team secured a 15-13, 15-12 victory over Bangladesh in their final match, the women’s team beat arch-rivals Pakistan by the same margin to win the title.

The International Sports Council had organised the World Games from June 15 to 18, in which 11 countries participated. India, who were participating for their first time ever, rose to the occasion to script history by become the champions in both male and female categories.

The women’s throwball team fought hard in the summit clash to register a close win against arch-rivals Pakistan 15-13, 15-12 to win the title. Similarly, it was not hunky dory for the men’s team as they had to break a lot of sweat to finish at the top, defeating Bangladesh in the final.

After the podium finishes, both men’s & women’s throwball teams were congratulated by the General Secretary of the Throwball Federation of India, Naresh Mann, who said, “These players had worked hard to win a medal in the World Games. I hope the players will continue to illuminate the name of India.”

Earlier, in the semifinal of the tournament, Indian men’s team had defeated Malaysia 15-9, 15-10 while the Women’s team registered a 15-10, 15-11 win over the same opponents.
