The Indian women’s rugby team did the nation proud as they created history by beating Singapore in their first-ever international 15s win on Saturday. The Indian team showed great character as they beat their opponents by a narrow margin of 21-19 to finish third in the Asian Rugby Women’s Championship Division one. India’s scrum-half Sumitra Nayak led her team to a win after kicking a penalty in the dying minutes of the match.

India were in the lead at the beginning when Sweety Kumari scored two first-half tries. But they were in trouble when Singapore hit back with two tries of their own. The opposition took the lead for the first time when Annabel Woo Xui Ni scored her second try of the game.

However, the Indians kept pushing and Nayak ultimately clinched a victory with her last-gasp penalty in the second half of the match which led to emotional scenes in the Indian dugout post the game.
