India’s Jehan Daruwala created history by winning the opening round of the brand new FIA Formula 3 Championship at the the Spanish F1 Grand Prix on Sunday. Starting his career in Karting at the age of 10, Jehan has won numerous national championships in it before venturing into this sport.

Young Jehan had started from the second position before rushing into the lead in the run-down to the first corner. However, to his misfortune, an accident behind that involved as many as four cars had to see the safety car getting deployed in the lap one itself, which halted Jehan’s concentration and amazing start.

Restarting the game, Finland’s Niko Kari, who was the pole-starter, made a charge as Jehan was forced to defend his lead and play hard. However, the Indian youngster was again quick enough to open a gap of 1.5 seconds, which prevented Kari from deploying the DRS (Drag Reduction System).

Amidst this, the safety car was reduced once more that nullified the two-second advantage of Jehan. However, Jehan was ready for the setback this time and was quick to open up a gap of over 1.5 seconds in less than two laps. Following that, he controlled it well bagging the fastest lap of the race and eventually Jehan went past like lightning to take the chequered flag 2.121 seconds, leaving behind Estonia’s Juri Vips, who could only finish second. After beginning his career at 10 in Karting, Jehan has won the Indian National Karting Championship, the Malaysian Junior Yamaha Karting Championship, the FIA CIK Asia Pacific KF3 Championship and the British Superone National Karting Championship.
