Sports Ministry decertifies Paralympic Committee of India for violating sports code
The Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) has been penalized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) for violating the National Sports Development Code of India. A complaint was received against PCI from Rao Inderjit Singh concerning his dismissal from the post of president of PCI.
The Sports Ministry found the federationās response unsatisfactory after receiving a complaint from Rao Inderjit Singh regarding his removal from the post of President of PCI by a majority vote. "Explanation had been sought from PCI vice Ministry's notices dated 11-7-2019 and 29-8-2019 on the complaint. The explanation furnished by PCI was found unsatisfactory," said the Ministry in the letter addressed to J Chandrashekhar, the Secretary-General of PCI.
A resolution was adopted by the PCI in its Annual General Meeting (AGM) this year on May 4 which barred public servants from getting elected to its executives. Rao Inderjit Singh, Minister of State (Planning) in the union government was removed as the President by a majority vote after this.
The PCIās AGM in May was deemed invalid while the ministry cited the District Registrarās order, saying "Bye-laws of PCI have been amended without bringing the same to the consideration of District Registrar of Societies, in violation of the Karnataka Societies Registration Act 1960 and Rules 1961."
The ministry held PCI accountable for violating the sports code and failing the good governance practices and de-recognized the committee with immediate effect on Tuesday.
The PCI had earlier been decertified in 2015 relating to governance issues and re-recognized in 2016.
