Tennis Round up | Divij Sharan ousted from Zhuhai, Sumit Nagal progress in Buenos Aires

Coming off a brilliant title win in St. Petersburg, Russia, last week, India’s Divij Sharan had to share $4,900 with Artem Sitak of New Zealand after they were ousted by Japanese pair in Zhuhai. In other matches, while Sumit Nagal progressed, Ramkumar Ramanathan lost in their respective tournaments.

Partnering with New Zealand’s Sitak, Sharan was facing the second-seeded British-Japanese pair of Luke Bambridge and Ben Mclachlan. However, they went down 7-6(2), 6-4 in the pre-quarterfinals on Wednesday as India’s journey ended quite early in the tournament.

Apart from Sharan, India also saw Ramkumar Ramanathan getting ousted in the Challenger in France. The Indian third seed had paired up with France’s Gregoire Barrere, where he lost 7-5, 6-4 in the second round. The Indian, however, collected five ATP points and €1,320.

However, it wasn’t all gloomy for the Indian tennis fans as their new blue-eyed boy Sumit Nagal kept his winning run on by beating Pedro Sakamoto of Brazil in the Challenger in Buenos Aires. The seventh-seeded player won 6-7(2), 6-4, 6-3 in the second round and would now be playing Jose Hernandez-Fernandez of Dominic Republic in the pre-quarterfinals.
