Working with two coaches has made my game more secure, says Saurav Ghosal

India’s highest ranked male squash player Saurav Ghosal has stated that working with David Palmer alongside his old coach Malcolm Willstrop has made him more mature as a player. The World No. 10 player had also added that his next big task his reaching quarters and semis of every big tournament.
After getting eliminated on only the second round of the Commonwealth Games against Jamaica’s Christopher Binnie last year, Ghosal had to make major changes to his game. It was then that he decided to train under Palmer aiming for bigger things alongside his old coach Malcolm, with whom Ghosal has been working for long now.
The things have changed for the better for him since, and it was on April 1 that the 32-year-old broke into the world top-10 PSA rankings and became the first Indian male squash player to do it. It happened after he made it to the quarterfinal in the World Championship and Switzerland’s Grasshopper Cup.
“I started working with Palmer last summer, adding to what I already have been working with Malcolm, and I feel my game has become more secure. Both of them are very experienced coaches and so we are a part of a team working towards well-defined goals,” said the 12-time national champion to Scroll.in.
“I am playing all the biggest events so winning them is not going to be the easiest task. But if you can start reaching the quarterfinals and the semifinals in these tournaments regularly and register some good wins then the ranking takes care of itself.
“Reaching the top-10 was one of the targets the team (which also includes trainer Damon Brown) had set. So yes, we have done that. But we are not done yet,” he said adding that the quarterfinal appearance in Chicago was one of the highlights of his year so far.
The 32-year-old, who had broken into the world top 20 back in February 2013, is currently playing in England in the Premier Squash League.
