Joshna Chinappa went down 11-6, 9-11, 11-5, 11-8 to local favourite Sarah-Jane Perry in the quarter-final to get knocked out of the tournament. The Indian had earlier defeated England’s Millie Tomlinson in straight sets in the second round of the tournament to make it to the quarters.

Joshna Chinappa's best could not bring the desired result. The sixth seed Sarah-Jane Perry of England beat her 11-6, 9-11, 11-5, 11-8 to enter the quarter final of the British Open Squash, a PSA world tour platinum event here late on Thursday.

Only two months ago in another tournament, Joshna had had the upperhand over Sarah over four games. It proved different here with both playing with a great degree of accuracy and everything boiling down to a mental battle, particularly after the first two games. Capturing the T was the key and Sarah just played some of her best squash towards the end stages to make sure she did not lose the grip.

Joshna Chinappa, earlier, had pulled off an impressive victory against England’s Millie Tomlinson to proceed to the third round. However, in the men’s category, Saurav Ghoshal faltered in the second round as he went down fighting to Karim Abdel Gawad.
