Sixth seeds Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea’s indifferent run in 2016 continued, as they bowed out of the quarter-final of the Monte Carlos Masters on Friday. Fourth seeds Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares ousted the Indo-Romanian pair 6-2,6-3 in a one-sided match that lasted an hour.

After defeating Robert Lindstedt and Alexander Peya 7-5, 7-5 to reach the quarters, Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea ran into the Australian Open champions, Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares. The Scot and the Brazilian, who beat Bopanna and Mergea in the final of the Sydney International, once again got the better off the sixth seeds, to enter the semis.

Bopanna and Mergea, who had a great season last year, reaching the final of the ATP World Tour finals in December, struggled against the fourth seeds and faced 5 break points across the first set. Although they saved three, the reigning Australian Open champions proved to be too hot to handle for the Indo-Romanian pair, as they cruised to a 6-2 first set win.

Bopanna and Mergea improved their game in the second set, but were no match for Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares, as the fourth seeds eased past the Indo-Romanian pair 6-3 to enter the semis. The Indo-Romanian pair will next head to Madrid Open, later this month, in an attempt to defend their crown.
