Fourth seeds Rohan Bopanna and Jean-Julien Rojer entered the quarter-final of the Barcelona Open on Wednesday after dismissing Spanish wild cards Pablo Carreno Busta and David Marrero 7-5, 6-3. The Indo-Dutch pair fired eight aces and saved all four break points faced on their way to the last 8.

After Bopanna’s old partner Florin Mergea decided to partner up with fellow Romanian Horia Tecău to prepare for the Rio Olympics, Bopanna teamed up with Horia Tecău’s doubles partner Jean-Julien Rojer for the 2016 Barcelona Open. The Indo-Dutch pair saved the two break points they faced in the opening set, while breaking the Spanish pair once. With Pablo Carreno Busta and David Marrero committing mistakes, Bopanna and Rojer took the advantage and won the first set 7-5.

The fourth seeds looked much more comfortable in the second set with the Spanish pair’s spirited effort slowly fading off. It was the same story again as Bopanna and Rojer saved two break points before breaking Pablo Carreno Busta and David Marrero once to nudge ahead in the second set. The Spanish pair continued making errors, committing two double faults to gift the advantage to the new-formed pair. The Indo-Dutch pair took it with both hands and confirmed their entry into the quarters by claiming the second set 6-3 to finish the match in one hour and seven minutes.

Bopanna and Rojer will next face the unseeded pair of Max Mirnyi and Treat Huey in the quarter-final on Thursday.
