Sixth seeds Rohan Bopanna and Daniel Nestor were ousted from the Shanghai Open today by Croatian pairing Marin Cilic and Mate Pavic. The Indo-Canadian pair won the first set 7-5, but were outplayed in the second set and the tiebreak to eventually lose 7-5, 4-6, 8-10.

Rohan Bopanna's bad run in the men's doubles circuit continued today at the Shanghai Open. The Indian had split with Florin Mergea in August this year after having played with him for all of 2015 - they had entered last year's year-ender ATP event. After playing with compatriot Jeevan Nedunchezian, Bopanna has apparently gotten back with his previous partner Daniel Nestor.

The pair started out well dominating the first set much more than the scoreline suggests. They won 95% of their first serve points and 83% of their second serve points and won 10 out of 29 first return points. Had they converted the four break points they had, the scoreline would have showed a different picture than the 7-5.

However, the second game saw Cilic and Pavic up their game. The pair fired in 5 aces, while the Indo-Canadian pair's first return percentage dropped to just 15%, and they lost the set 4-6.

In the tie-break, the pairs were neck to neck, but Cilic and Pavic managed to win it 10-8 eventually to send Bopanna and Nestor packing from the Open.
