Tashkent ATP Challenger: Paes-Begemann enter semis after a hard-fought victory

Leander Paes and his German partner Andre Begemann notched up close win over Oleksandr Nedovyesov and Denys Molchanov to enter the men’s doubles semi-finals of the Tashkent ATP Challenger tennis on Wednesday. The pair next play wild card Sanjar Fayziev and Jurabeck Karimov for a place in the final.

In a match that lasted one hour and 25 minutes, third-seeded Paes and Begemann had to dig deep to register a 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 win in the super tie-breaker over the Kazakh-Ukranian pair.

Despite conceding five double faults, Paes and his German partner saved seven break points to eventually prevail in the tight match. The duo came back from 2-4 down in the super tie-break to clinch the contest following some brilliant play from Paes.

Meanwhile, the pair of Fayziev and Karimov got a walkover from Mirza Basic of Bosnia and Slovakia's Blaz Kavcic in the quarter-finals.
