Prajnesh Gunneswaran has been in the news numerous times over the last month for his hot and cold displays at the Stuttgart Open after a disappointing elimination in his French Open campaign followed by his Vicenza Challengers tournament. Further, he had made himself eligible for the ATP World Tour match that he had to retire from in the first-round match with a strain. However, the Indian sounded totally set on facing his first Wimbledon campaign ever on Monday.

The man from Chennai sounded confident that he could deal with the pressure that would be exerted upon him owing to the fact that it would this would be his first ever Wimbledon campaign.

“It will be my first Wimbledon so there is a certain amount of pressure, but I need to deal with that well. I'm waiting to see who I draw and make plans accordingly to try and get into the main draw but I am taking it one match a time,” Prajnesh told in an interaction with The Field.

“It was unfortunate that I couldn’t get the lucky loser spot, but to be honest, I didn’t win the final round so not like I was supposed to play the main draw. I was the eighth possibility of getting in a lucky loser spot so I didn’t think I had a chance. I decided to leave when there were four pull outs,” he explained referring to his near miss out in the French Open.

Even though Prajnesh lost his match against Guido Pella in the ATP World Tour clash, his win over world no.23 Denis Shapovalov was one of the shining moments of his career.

“I am really happy with the way I played, I was playing someone ranked much higher than me so I had less pressure than what I would have normally had. I tried to play my best tennis and I was the underdog there. I ended up playing well in the big moments, converting the chances I got, at 5-0 I didn’t play as well for about 10 minutes which is why it went to 5-3 but I managed to regain my composure and I served well to finish off the match,” Prajnesh said recalling his performance.
