Ramakumar Ramanathan’s journey in the singles of the Marbella Masters ended as he lost his quarter-final encounter against Marco Cecchinato 1-6, 4-6. However, he still has a chance in the men’s doubles semis where he and Enrique López Pérez take on Ariel Behar and Guido Andreozzi.

It was a bad day to remember for Ramanathan, the only Indian left in the Marbella Challngers, as his impressive singles run ended in the quarter final game against Cecchinato. However, contrary to the score line, it was easy for the Italian that was shown in the first game itself, where Cecchinato was forced to save four break points over 17 points to win the game.

It pretty much broke Ramanthan’s spirit who couldn’t save a breakpoint in the second game. The Italian took an early lead of 3-0 before the Indian even managed to open his account. And by the time he did win, it was too late as it turned out to be his only point of the first set that his opponent easily won by a margin of 6-1.

With the first set going past like wind, Ramanathan had one last chance to save his singles chances but had already taken a lot of steam out of him. The Indian lost his serve in the first game itself before managing to save his next serves. However, his opponent controlled the game well to take the lead and after eight games the score read 5-3 in the favor of the 25-year-old. The Italian kept his dominance intact till the very end to seal it 6-4.

However, despite losing the men’s singles encounter, Ramanathan will now compete in the men’s doubles along with his Spanish partner Perez. They will play against the duo of Uruguay’s Ariel Behar and Argentina’s Guido Andreozzi.
