Juan Martin del Porto suffers a groin injury; in doubt for French Open

Juan Martin del Porto was forced to pull out of the Italian Open due to a groin strain which has put his French Open participation in doubt. Del Potro has stated that he has started his rehab and would take a call on his Roland Garros participation after evaluating his condition in the coming days.

Juan Martin del Porto ended his stint at the Italian Open after his retirement against David Goffin, following a groin injury in Rome on Thursday. At the time he retired, he was trailing 2-6 5-4 against the Belgian David Goffin. After the match, the Argentine took to Twitter to give an update on his injury. He stated that he has suffered a grade 1 groin strain and has started his rehab. He further added that he would take a call on his participation in the French Open in the upcoming days.Ā 

"After the medical examinations today, it has been determined that I have suffered a groin strain (grade 1) in Rome," the 29-year-old Del Potro said on his verified Twitter account.

"I have started to do rehab and will evaluate the situation in the upcoming days to decide whether I can play the French Open."

The injury came at an unlikely time for Del Potro, who had secured wins in the Acapulco and Indian Wells. The French Open is set toĀ begin on May 27 in Paris.Ā
