Leander Paes along with his French partner Benoit Paire were knocked out in the final round of the doubles qualifying event in the ongoing Barcelona Open. The Indo-French pair went on to lose to Spanish opponents and wildcard entrants Roberto Carballes Baena and Jaume Munar 7-6(3), 7-5.

In the international ATP circuit, there was heartbreak in store for veteran Indian player Leander Paes as he failed to make it to the final draws of the ongoing Barcelona Open. Paes, along with partner Benoit Paire, bowed out in the final round of doubles qualifying on Sunday.

The Indo-French pair lost to wildcards Roberto Carballes Baena and Jaume Munar of Spain by a final scoreline of 7-6(3), 7-5.  In the earlier match, Paes and Paire had pulled off a stunning win against second seeds Austin Krajicek and Artem Sitak by beating them with a final score of 4-6, 6-4, 10-7.

Meanwhile, in the ongoing Nanchang Open in China, India’s NS Balaji and SK Mukund managed to secure a berth in the pre-quarterfinal stage of the tournament. In addition to those two, Ramkumar Ramanathan would be India’s highest-ranked representative in the tournament after the withdrawal of Prajnesh Gunneswaran from the tournament.
