Davis Cup | We continue to monitor situation in Pakistan, says ITF executive director

ITF executive director Heather Bowler is adamant that the international body is monitoring the threat level in Pakistan ahead of the Davis Cup encounter. Meanwhile, AITA will hand in a request to the ITF in order to shift the pre-scheduled match against Pakistan to a neutral venue.
The Indian Davis Cup team was all set to make the trip across the border to Islamabad to play their scheduled tie against Pakistan. This would have been the first time that India would have played Pakistan in a tennis match since 2006. However, the recent socio-political situation between both nations has taken a turn for the worse which had inadvertently also affected the sporting ties between the rival nations.
In an email received from ITF executive director Heather Bowler, the international body was adamant that the security threat level in Pakistan remains the same but could change in the coming days as they continue to monitor situations within the country.
"Thorough security assessments have been conducted for all Davis Cup and Fed Cup ties. The overall security risk rating in Pakistan has not changed. However, we continue to monitor the situation with our advisors," said Heather Bowler, ITF's Executive Director, Communications & Digital, in her e-mail response.
Meanwhile, AITA secretary general Hironmoy Chatterjee had earlier told TOI reporters that the Indian federation will be forced to put in a request to ITF in order to shift the Davis Cup tie to a neutral venue in the coming days.
"ITF is closed today and tomorrow (Sunday). So on Monday we will make the request. I can't tell you everything. These are internal matters that we are discussing," Chatterjee told TOI sources
