18-year-old Mahak Jain won both the singles and the doubles in $15,000 ITF women’s tournament in Nairobi, Kenya, as she won 6-1, 6-1 in the final. This was the second successive win for the player, who had won the last title at the same venue, as she sealed it alongside Sathwika Sama.

The two-time national champion was quick to dominate proceedings in the final, where she was taking on Sada Nahimana of Burundi. And she did it beautifully winning in straight games. This performance was much superior to her last tournament where she had conceded 18 games.

The athlete, coached by Sajid Lodi in Indore, conceded just 12 games against five opponents this time and defeated the same opponent in the final for the loss of five games last week. Gabon’s Celestine Avomo Ella tuned out to be her only tough opponent stretching her to seven games in the quarterfinals.

After an underwhelming season last time, Mahak returned to winning ways, extending her good form from the semifinals of the $25,000 tournament in Navi Mumbai in December last year.

The doubles final of the Challenger in Meerbusch, Germany saw India’s Sriram Balaji and Vishnu Vardhan losing 10-3 in the super tie-break against Andre Begemann of Germany and Florin Mergea of Romania. While the champions pocketed 80 points and €2070, the Indian pair collected 48 ATP points and €1,550.

The results:

€ 46,600 Challenger, Meerbusch, Germany

Doubles (final): Andre Begemann (Ger) & Florin Mergea (Rou) bt Sriram Balaji & Vishnu Vardhan 7-6(1), 6-7(4), [10-3]
