French Open | Rohan Bopanna, Leander Paes register comfortable wins, Divij Sharan gets knocked out

Rohan Bopanna and his men’s doubles partner Marius Copil have qualified for the men’s doubles pre-quarterfinals while Leander Paes also won his first-round match with partner Benoit Paire in the ongoing French Open. Divij Sharan and Marcelo Demoliner lost their second round men’s doubles match.

Indian tennis players had a mixed day on Friday in the men’s doubles category. On one side, Rohan Bopanna and Leander Paes registered easy wins with their respective partners to move ahead in the French Open while in another second-round game in the men’s doubles, Divij Sharan had to bow out along with his Brazilian partner.

Bopanna and his Romanian partner Marius Copil won in straight sets 6-4 6-4 against Benjamin Bonzi and Antoine Hoang in the second-round to make it to the pre-quarterfinals of the tournament. They will now take on Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic and Janko Tipsarevic for a place in the top eight.

Indian veteran Paes has made it to the second round of the tournament as he won the first game with his French partner Benoit Paire. The Indo-French pair beat Martin Klizan and Dominic Inglot in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 to march ahead at the Roland Garros.

On the other hand, Sharan and his partner from Brazil Marcelo Demoliner had to bow out of the competition as they lost in the second round. The duo was defeated exactly in an hour in straight sets 3-6, 4-6 by eighth seeds Henri Kontinen and John Peers.
