Ramkumar Ramanathan and Saketh Myneni had straight set wins against South Korea’s Nam Ji-Sung and Japan’s Hiroki Moriya respectively in the Seoul Challenger as they advance to the quarter-final. In Savannah Challenger, Sumit Nagal progressed as Mats Moraing retired in the second set.

Ramkumar Ramanathan was facing South Korea’s Nam Ji-Sung in Seoul Challenger, Korea, and was expected to have a win against his opponent, who was 218 spots below him in the world ranking. And while the outcome panned out to be pretty straightforward, the match wasn’t.

After Ramanathan had an easy 6-3 win over the Korean after the Indian managed to break him in the fourth game, which was enough to see the set through, Sung looked extremely cautious on the second one. It went to the tie-breaker with none of the players getting broken in the first six games, and the decider was thrilling nonetheless.

Sung was broken in his first tie-breaker serve itself with the outcome pretty much expectant. However, he managed to break Ramanathan to lead 4-3 getting as many as three set points. But, the experienced Indian saved all of them before breaking Sung very at 6-6 before going on to win it 8-6.

Saketh Myneni was up against a tricky opponent in Japan’s Hiroki Moriya, who was higher than him in ATP rankings. However, Myneni looked like the superior play on the day from the very first game. He took the first set 6-2 breaking his opponent in the second and eighth game. The second set was an even shorter affair as Myneni won it 6-1 breaking Moriya in the second and sixth game.

Sumit Nagal had a relatively easier outing against Germany’s Mats Moraing in Savannah Challenger pre-quarters. And the Indian overcame him quite comfortably 6-1, 4-2. After Nagal broke him in the fourth and sixth game to clinch the first set, Moraing looked determined to make a comeback in the second set.

However, after both the players broke each other in the first and second game, the German was clearly struggling with injury and after getting broken in the fifth game, he could continue only one game before retiring midway.
