French Open | Divij Sharan makes into round of 32 as J. Nedunchezhiyan bows out in men’s doubles

Divij Sharan advanced into the round of 32 alongside Brazilian partner Marcelo Demoliner as they got the better of Sweden’s Robert Lindstedt and Hungary’s Márton Fucsovics. In another match, the Indo-German pair of Mischa Zverev and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan lost to Mate Pavić and Oliver Marach.
The Indo-Brazilian pair started on a positive note as they won the first set 6-3 quite easily. They broke the Swiss-Hungarian duo in the very second game itself which was enough to win them the set, even if their opponent hardly faltered.Â
It was a sign that the pair of Lindstedt/Fucsovics was likely to make a comeback sooner rather than later and it happened in the very next set. Although both the pairs maintained their wins from their service games, Sharan and Demoliner got broke right on the tenth game to lose it 4-6.
The third and the deciding set was expected to be a thriller it panned out exactly that way despite the one-dimensional nature. The Swiss-Hungarian pair was broken in the first game itself and again in the fifth game to let the Indo-Brazilian pair lead 4-1. It was in the seventh game that took all the limelight as the Swiss-Hungarian pair saved as many as four points to win the game before they eventually lost 2-6.
The Indo-German pair of Jeevan and Mischa wasn’t as enthralling by any nature. Though they were competitive in the first set, they could only force it to a tie-breaker after both the pairs were broken twice to end the set 6-6. However, they ended up losing the set 2-7.
The second set saw both the pairs winning their service games until the very last game when the Indo-Brazilian pair got broken to lose it 4-6.
