French Open | Divij Sharan and partner Shuko Aoyama bow out in mixed doubles

Divij Sharan along with his partner Shuko Aoyama from Japan suffered a 6-3, 2-6, 10-7 defeat against Ukraine 's Lyudmyla Kichenok and Mexico 's Santiago Gonzalez in the French Open. Earlier, Rohan Bopanna and Czech Republic’s Lucie Hradecka had lost to top seeds Nicole Melichar and Bruno Soares.

Divij Sharan, who represents India in the Davis Cup, along with his mixed doubles partner Shuko Aoyama of Japan suffered an unfortunate 6-3, 2-6, 10-7 defeat against Lyudmyla Kichenok of Ukraine and Santiago Gonzalez of Mexico on Thursday.

The Indian ace’s loss came after compatriot Rohan Bopanna and Czech Republic’s Lucie Hradecka were beaten in straight-sets while competing against top seeds Nicole Melichar of the USA and Brazil’s Bruno Soares earlier on Wednesday.

However, the Indian combo will continue to compete in the men’s doubles category in their respective second round matches on Friday. Divij Sharan and Brazilian partner Marcelo Demoliner, who had beaten Marton Fucsovics and Robert Lindstedt in the earlier round, will face eighth seeds and Australian Open runners-up Henri Kontinen of Finland and John Peers of Australia tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Bopanna and Romanian Marius Copil, who outplayed sixth seeds Raven Klaasen and Michael Venus in the opening round on Tuesday, will take onBenjamin Bonzi and Antoine Hoang of France.
