Sakshi Malik books final berth at Asian Wrestling Championship

Sakshi Malik along with Vinesh Phogat and Divya Kakran, today, entered the finals of their respective weight categories at the ongoing Asian Wrestling Championship in Delhi. All the three grapplers won their respective matches convincingly and assured India a return of at least 3 silver medals.

The first Indian woman to win an Olympic medal, Sakshi Malik, continued to shine for India on the international platform when she entered the finals of the women's 60kg category at the Asian Wrestling Championship.

Sakshi defeated KazakĀ grappler Ayaulym Kassymova without breaking a sweat with a score of 15-3 to cruise into the finals of the tournament. Earlier in the tournament, Sakshi defeated NabiraĀ Esenbaeva of Uzbekistan by a score of 6-2 Ā to enter the semi-finals.

Vinesh Phogat defeated China's Qi Zhang 4-0 to enter the finals of the 55kg weight category of the tournament while debutant Divya Kakran defeated Korea's Chen-Chi Huang 12-4 to enter the finals of women's 69kg category.Ā 

However, Ritu Phogat failed to go past Japen's Yui Susaki and bowed out in the semi-finals of the tournament. Anil Kumar and Jyoti also won two bronze medals be it with contrasting performances yesterday. The Greco-Roman wrestler came from behind to beat Uzbekistan's Muhammadali Shamsiddinov 7-6 to claim the bronze medal in theĀ 85kg category. Jyoti won her medal in the women's 75kgwhere she lost to Japan's Masako Furuichi in the semi finals.
