The Sports Authority of India has decided to pay a high package for the foreign coaches to bring an end to Wrestling Federation of India’s search for world-class coaches. SAI will pay $10,000 per month to Farniev Irbek Valentinovich and also has also roped in Hossein Karimi and Temo Kazarashvili.

In the near future, the Indian wrestlers will work with new foreign coaches as Iran’s Hossein Karimi (men’s freestyle), Russia’s Farniev Irbek Valentinovich (women’s freestyle), and Georgia’s Temo Kazarashvili (Greco-roman) will get the responsibility to take the Indian wrestling forward.

Currently, the Sports Authority of India is responsible for the payment for coaches’ salaries and it seemed like Valentinovich’s salary will affect their bank account heavily. It will be the first time when a foreign coach will get as much as $10,000 per month as salary. Valentinovich will get far more than other two coaches as Karimi will get $3,500 per month and Kazarashvili's appointment has been made at the expense of $4,000.

“The reason behind appointing Valentinovich at such a hefty pay package is that he transformed the Russian female wrestlers from an average group to world beaters, who cornered medal glory at the Rio Olympics. As far as Kazarashvili is concerned, he has been a world champion,” an unnamed senior WFI official told TOI.

Initially, all three coaches will get a six-month contract until the World Championships which will be played in August in Hungary. It is expected that the new coaches will join the team before the start of the Commonwealth Games from April 4 to 15.

“Based on their performance at the CWG and the Worlds, their contract will be accordingly extended till the 2020 Tokyo Olympics,” the official said.

Jagminder Singh (men’s), Kuldeep Malik (women’s) and Kuldeep Singh (Greco-roman), the three Indian coaches, will continue working with the players and give their assistance to the foreign coaches. Since the 2016 Rio Olympics, the posts for foreign coaches were vacant.
