Every medal is important but Olympic holds a special place, reveals Sushil Kumar

Two-time Olympic medalist, Sushil Kumar has revealed his desire to lay his hands on a gold medal in the Olympics in the near future in a recent speech at the Nagpur MahaMetro Marathon event on Sunday. Kumar has previously won bronze in 2008 and clinched silver in the 2012 edition in London.

Aged 35, many would reckon that Sushil Kumar has passed his prime on the wrestling mat, but the veteran reckons he still has a long way to go in a recent speech on Sunday. Addressing the crowd gathered at the Tirpude College ground in Nagpur, Kumar gave a very emotional speech about what he expects of himself in the near future.

"I came to know that your blessings are very special. Last year, Mary Kom had come for this event. And yesterday, she won the record sixth gold medal in the World Boxing Championship. Now, I am here. Shower your blessings so that I win the medal next year," Kumar said.

Later on, during a media interaction, the Two-time Olympic medalist revealed that there is no championship on his mind other than the Olympics coming up in Tokyo 2020. Kumar is still toiling hard with just one thing in mind - An Olympic gold medal.

"I have won gold medals in all tournaments across the world. Every medal is important but Olympic holds a special place. I was very close to get it but could not. It keeps lingering in my mind.

"Efforts are always on to get the elusive gold in the next Olympics. I seek your blessings to win the Olympic gold for my country," added Kumar, who had earlier won bronze in Beijing 2008 and silver in London 2012.
