The problems with the coaching staff seem to be compounding further by the day for the Wrestling Federation of India as Frenchman Fanel Carp has left the country over pay dispute. Carp was working with Rio Olympics bronze medallist Sakshi Malik and Pooja Dhanda since earlier this year.

According to a report that appeared on the Tribune, on Friday, Carp left home a week ago due to a lack of clarity on the payment structure and tenure in his contract. It is understood that Carp was roped in to work with the two wrestlers in June when he was visiting India. He was offered a coaching contract and was asked to complete the visa formalities to join the team as soon as possible. The Frenchman followed through and has been with the squad during the training stints in Europe and a few international tournaments. However, it seems that he has been paid a salary only for the months of August and September, although he has been with the team since June.

Under his training, both Malik and Dhanda failed to win a medal at the wrestling world championships in Nur-Sultan last month. The latter, however, made it to the semi-finals and almost earned herself a second medal at the event.

Carp leaving has added to the troubles with the coaching staff for India’s wrestling federation, who had sacked freestyle coach Hossein Karimi earlier this month. The federation had issues allowing the VIP culture the Iranian supposedly brought with himself.
