Long jumper Ankit Sharma, sprinter Srabani Nanda qualify for Olympics

Following in on the footsteps of Dutee Chand and Mohammad Anas, two more Indian athletes qualified for the Olympics on Sunday with long jumper Ankit Sharma and sprinter Srabani Nanda meeting the qualification mark. Ankit, the national record holder qualified for the event with a jump of 8.17 metres.

Long jumper Ankit Sharma bettered his own national record with two jumps of 8.17 meters and 8.19 meters at the G Kosanov Memorial Meet in Almaty, Kazakhstan on Sunday to clinch the ticket to Rio. On the other hand, sprinter Srabani Nanda qualified for Rio in women’s 200m by clocking a timing of 23.03 seconds.

Earlier, Dutee Chand had qualified for the Olympics in women’s 100m from the meet in Kazakhstan, while Mohammad Anas qualified for the Olympics in men’s 400m from the Polish Athletics Championship at Bydgoszcz.
