All India Senior Ranking Badminton tournament: Aruna and Mithun win titles

Aruna Prabhudesai claimed the women’s singles title at the All India Senior Ranking Badminton tournament after defeating Kanika Kanwal in the finals. Mithun Manjunath claimed his second All India Ranking title in 7 days as he defeated Rohit Yadav in the finals of the men’s singles category

Aruna Prabhudesai, ranked 119 in the world, defeated 13th seed Kanika Kanwal in the final of the All India Senior Ranking Badminton in Dehradun. The match lasted for over an hour with the scoreline reading 21-10, 21-17 in favor of the 19-year-old Aruna.

Mithun Manjunath, who is a trainee at Prakash Padukone’s academy, claimed is second All India Ranking title in the span of 7 days. He defeated 4th seeded Rohit Yadav 21-12, 21-11 in the final that clocked just 40 minutes. He had previously defeated the Swedish Champion Siddharth Pratap Singh on the 12th of February to claim his first title of the week.

In the women’s doubles, the final 4th seeded pair of Kuhoo Garg and Ningshi Block Hazarika lost to the fifth-seeded pair of Aparna Balan and Sruthi KP with the scores reading 21-18, 21-15 in the favor of the fifth seeds.

Kuhoo won the mixed doubles title with Gouse Shaik as their opposite pairing of Shivam Sharma and Poorvisha S Ram retired midway in the first game.

The men’s doubles crown was won by the top seeds Arun Ram and Sanyam Shukla as the pair were handed a walkover.
