PV Sindhu, who is currently ranked No.3 in the world, stated that she is determined to do well and is confident of beating World No.1 Tai Tzu Ying in the World Championship in China. She has further added that she has the hunger of winning big titles and is focused on giving her best.

Having missed the World Championships gold by a whisker last year, PV Sindhu faces familiar challenge with almost the same players featuring this year, was confident of achieving the top honours at the Worlds which begin in China on Monday. She insisted that she has been prepping to do well in the competition and insisted that she was confident of beating World no. 1 Tai Tzu Ying, who has taken the world of badminton by storm with her deceptive game play.

“I am confident of beating her now. At Malaysia (where Sindhu lost) the conditions are different, here in China we may be using different shuttles, the courts may be slow etc., I need to be very consistent, I should keep all the shuttles inside the court, since she is a stroke player I should retrieve everything. If I get these right I can beat her and I had done that in the past,” said PV Sinhu in an interview with TOI.

Sindhu, who has been seeded second in the tournament, suffered a 15-21, 18-21 defeat to fourth seed Nozomi Okuhara of Japan in straight games inside 50 minutes to settle for runners-up spot in the Thailand Open. Sindhu stated that giving away easy points was the reason for her loss.

“I think it because of the little mistakes from my side. I gave easy points to her in the first game. Even in the second I got into rhythm but at 18-19 I miscued a smash and it went out. If I could have taken that point I could have won the game,” Sindhu said.

Sindhu was knocked out in the semi-final in the Malaysian open as well, as Tai won 21-15, 19-21, 21-11. Sindhu last conquered Tai in the Olympics, but insisted that she was ready to face Tai this time around.

“Definitely she is a very good player. She has good strokes, good game...but when I faced her in Malaysia, I played well...I could have been more consistent in the third game, after 4-4 I gave easy points to her,” she said.

As she faltered to win titles in her last two outings, Sindhu insisted that she has the hunger to win major titles and she has been focused to give her best.

“I have a lot of hunger to win the big titles. But I am not worried I know it would happen and I would win one day. Win or lose I always focus only on giving my 100%. Many players are of the same standard it all depends on how your strokes land on the other side of court. Sometimes we miss the touch, make simple mistakes...everything matters,” she added.
