Lakshya Sen enters Quarterfinals of Tata Open International Challenge

Lakshya Sen defeated fellow countryman Daniel Farid in the pre-quarterfinal match in straight sets at the Tata Open International Challenge at the Cricket Club of India in Mumbai on Thursday. On the other hand, in the women's category, India’s Ashmita Chaliha defeated top-seed Ksenia Polikarpova.

Lakshya Sen cleared the first two hurdles at the Tata Open International Challenge tournament by defeating Hong Kong’s Chan Yan Chak and compatriot Daniel Farid in a one-sided match. While Sen won the first round against Chak 21-18,21-15 in straight sets, it was an even easier win for Sen in the second round when he defeated Farid 21-9,21-17. 

In the quarterfinal match, Sen will face Goh Giap Chin of Malaysia who defeated seventh seed Abhishek Yeligar 16-21, 21-19, 21-8. Kiran George is another Indian in the men’s singles draw, having defeated Pratul Joshi 21-14, 18-21, 21-16.

In the women’s singles section, Ashmita Chaliha defeated top seed, Israel’s Ksenia Polikarpova 18-21, 21-16, 21-12. Apart from Anura Prabhudesai who reached the quarterfinals, Reshma Karthik, Mugdha Agrey, Vrushali Gummadi, and Aakarshi Kashyap also made it to the women’s singles quarters.

Meanwhile, on the doubles court, in the mixed doubles section, Sumeeth Reddy and Puja Dandu beat Gaurav Deswal and Tapaswini Samantray 21-14, 21-17 going through to the quarter-finals. Arjun MR and Maneesha K are also reached the quarters after defeating Saurabh Sharma and Anoushka Parikh 21-14, 21-17.
