India’s run at Li-ning Denmark Challenge came to an end as the only remaining singles player, Subhankar Dey eventually lost to hot local favourite Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus. The men’s duo of Chirag Shetty and Swastiksairaj Rankireddy went down against England’s Ben Lane and Sean Vendy.

Dey’s first challenge of the day was against Russia’s Sergey Sirant and the Indian was expected to have an easy run through. And he did exactly that winning it 21-17, 21-7 with the match lasting just over 30 minutes.

His next challenge was a tough one as Vittinghus was a title contender at home conditions and Dey was approaching the game not on experience but momentum. And despite the Indian winning the first game 21-17 in the flow, the Dane’s experience got the better of the Indian as Vittinghus came back to win two consecutive games 13-21, 10-21.

The biggest hope in the tournament for India, however, has been the duo of Rankireddy and Shetty. They started the day with a straightforward 21-17, 21-12 win against Russia’s Nikita Khakimov and Alexandr Zinchenko.

However, even their campaign came to a screeching end when they went up against England’s Lane and Vendy. It was a match of the equals and the Indian duo gave their all in the first game which they eventually lost 22-24. The second game found them tired as they went down 20-22.
