Indian women boxers pick up 22 medals at AIBA Nations Cup

Seema Punia (+81 kg) defeated Ukrainian Elizaveta Sayushkina 3:0, and Pwilao Basumatary (57 kg) ousted Algerian Manel Meharzai 3:0, to clinch two golds for India in the senior category of the tournament, which is being held in Ruma, Serbia.

This edition (5th) of the AIBA Nations Cup had almost twice the number of participants ā€“ 44 juniors, 63 youth and 162 elite-level athletes. 34 nations, from all the five AIBA confederations, were represented in the event, which will enable the pugilists to prepare for the upcoming AIBA Women's World Championship in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

India have racked up four golds, nine silvers and nine bronze medals in the tournament. Apart from Seema and Pwilao, Soniya (48 kg) and Manisha (60 kg) fetched golds in the youth and junior category respecgtively.

Meena Rani and Bina Devi Jaobijam lost in their respective finals, and had to settle for silver medals.

Youth category ā€“ Sarita Singh (57 kg), Siwi Boora (60 kg) and Nisha (64 kg) won silver.

Juniors category - Ramya Guduru (48kg), Parveen (52kg), Astha Pahwa (70kg) and Niharika Gonella (80kg) won silver.
