Indian women boxers had a good outing in Turkey’s Ahmet Comert Tournament with Simranjit Kaur clinching the gold, Pinki Jangar winning silver medal, and Sonia Lather settling for a bronze. Apart from then, Bhagyabati was declared the most scientific boxer of the tournament.

The Indian team finished third in the tournament with as many as four medals in Istanbul as the Indian eves put on an encouraging display. It started with Simranjit (64kg) winning the gold medal with the former national medalist beat Turkey's Sema Caliskan.

It was followed by Pinki losing to local hope Busenaz Cakiroglu in the 51kg category as the former Commonwealth Games bronze-medallist, had to be happy with a silver medal. However, the biggest upset was World Championship silver medallist Sonia Lather losing in the semis of the 57kg category. Sonia had to beat the local favourite Binnaz Ozdemir in the quarter-finals and looked to go all the way, but, she lost in the semis to settle for a bronze.

Fly-weight category’s Monika compensated for it by Turkey’s Ayse Cagirer of Turkey in the final to win the gold medal. And the icing on the cake was Bhagyabati’s brilliant win of Selma Karakoyun to win the gold and in the process was also declared the most scientific boxer of the tournament.
