India finished the Magomed Salam Umakhanov Memorial at the sixth place with Lovlina Borgohain and Neeraj winning gold medals and Gaurav Solanki clinching a silver in Russia. Apart from them, Pooja Rani, Govind Sahani, and Jony had to settle for bronze medals in their respective categories.

World Championship bronze medallist Lovlina (69kg) was against Assunta Canfora, who had defeated the Indian 3-2 at the India Open final. However, Lovlina was prepared this time for the Italian and she kept a calm and composed demeanour holding up her guard Canfora’s flurry of punches before going on the offensive. She won 3-2 to secure the yellow metal.

Neeraj (57kg) was always one of the favourites after managing to stun former world champion Alessia Mesiano 3-2 in the semi-final. And Neeraj continued the brilliant run against Russia's Malika Shakhidova as well with a comprehensive 3-0 victory.

However, India’s gold rush pretty much ended there as Gaurav Solanki went down against Uzbekistan's Abdulkhay Sharakhmatov in the semis. Solanki’s was clearly unequipped to read the Uzbek’s speed and strength and eventually succumbed to 0-5 loss.

Asian champion Pooja Rani suffered a defeat against Anna Anfinogenova 3-2 in the middleweight (75k) semifinal to win the bronze, as did Govind Sahani (49Kg) and Jony (60Kg). Govind lost to Russia’s Kurban Bayranbekov 1-4 while Jony was humbled by Russia’s Natalya Shadrina by the similar scoreline.
