Three Indian boxers make quarter-finals of Thailand International Tournament

Deepak Singh (49kg), Manisha Moun (57kg) and Ashish Kumar (75kg) registered comprehensive wins against their opponents to make the quarters of Thailand International Tournament. Deepak and Manisha claimed 5-0 wins as Kumar beat local boy Aphisit Kanankhokkhruea by a 4-1 verdict.

The Indian boxing contingent currently participating in the Thailand International Tournament in Bangkok are on a roll as three national boxers have already secured a spot in the quarter-finals of the competition. Asian Championships silver-medallist Deepak Singh (49kg), Manisha Moun (57kg) and Ashish Kumar (75kg) were the three boxers to have secured a spot in the next round.

Deepak put in a commanding show to comfortably outpunch Morocco’s Said Mortaji 5-0 to make the quarters as former India Open gold-medallist Manisha stormed through after pushing aside Thailand’s Sajeewani Srimali by a 5-0 verdict. Meanwhile, Kumar was made to work hard for his win but eventually secured a 4-1 verdict over another local favourite Aphisit Kanankhokkhruea.

Earlier, Former junior world champion Nikhat Zareen (51kg) prevailed 5-0 over New Zealand's Tasmyn Benny in the first round of the tournament. But former youth world champion Shashi Chopra (60kg) bowed out of the competition early as she went down to local favourite Sudaporn Seesondee in her opening encounter.
