World Military Games | Duryodhan Singh Negi and Jaideep qualify for pre-quarters

India boxers Duryodhan Singh Negi and Jaideep have moved into the pre-quarterfinal of the ongoing World Military Games in Wuhan, China. Earlier, star Indian boxer Amit Panghal had won his opening bout on Saturday at the World Military Games which kicked off in China on October 18.

Indian boxers had a great start to their campaign at the ongoing 7th CISM World Military Games in China’s Wuhan as two of the main contenders Duryodhan Singh Negi and Jaideep won their respective bouts and qualified for the pre-quarterfinals on Sunday. In the 69 kg category, Duryodhan Singh Negi got the better of Egypt’s Hikal Mohamed. The Indian managed to edge past his opponent by a unanimous 5-0 verdict in his round of 32 bout.

Jaideep also dominated his round of 32 bout against Qatar’s Nabah Ahmad in the 75kg category. The Qatar boxer was beaten by a unanimous decision as well as Jaideep entered the round of 16 of the Military Games.

World Championships runners-up in the 52 kg flyweight category Amit Panghal, earlier, had a great start to the Games. He had managed to win his opening bout on Saturday against Douglas Andrade of Brazil.

India have fielded 54 total athletes across various events - Archery, boxing, diving, modern pentathlon, shooting, track and field, gymnastics and tennis - in the Military Games. In the last Games, which was played in South Korea, India’s military contingent had bagged six medals in 2015.
