MCL auction: Sehwag to team-up with Muralitharan; Ganguly to play alongside Kallis

Indian star Virender Sehwag will team up with the likes of Muttiah Muralitharan and Kumar Sangakkara for Gemini Arabians in the upcoming Masters Champions League, scheduled to start on January 22, 2016. Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly will play for Team Libra alongside Jacques Kallis.

The auction for the inaugural Masters Champions League is underway in Dubai today. Nearly 250 players will go under the hammer for the 90 spots (15 each) for the six franchises. The players have been divided into five categories – Legends, Icons, A+, A and Associate country players.

Each of the six teams will have a budget cap of $750,000, and they must spend a minimum of $550,000. Each team has already purchased two legends at a combined cost of $100,000 and today's auction concluded the players in A+ category so far.

Virender Sehwag was signed by Gemini Arabians for $50,000, while Team Libra signed Sourav Ganguly for the same amount. Brett Lee, Adam Gilchrist, Jacques Kallis, Brian Lara and Muttiah Muralitharan are the highest earners so far, with each being sold for $100,000. Interestingly, at 29, Brendan Taylor is the youngest player in the A+ category.
