V Jayadevan, a civil engineer who came with the VJD method, has revealed that BCCI hasnā€™t provided him with any aid for using the method, while he has demanded aid for further developing it. The VJD method is used in domestic matches in India to determine revised scores for rain-affected matches.

While the VJD method is being used successfully to decide matches efficiently for almost a decade now, the man behind it still lurks in the dark and essentially unawarded for his contribution. V Jayadevan, a civil engineer, the mastermind behind the VJD method, has revealed that the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) hasnā€™t provided him with any aid since 10 years now.

The only aid he received from the governing body was back in 2009, the year a technical committee headed by former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar recommended the use of the method to calculate revised targets in domestic matches.Ā

"In the last 12 years, results of over 500 domestic matches were decided satisfactorily using VJD method. State T20 leagues like KPL, TNPL are also using the system. However, as far as my efforts during the last two decades are concerned, I haven't received any recognition or monetary benefit," Jayadevan told TOI.

Jayadevan has revealed that he wants aid to developing the method further to suit the needs of the ever-evolving game of cricket.

"Initially, when I sought financial aid for further development of the system, the then Kerala Cricket Association secretary TC Mathew took me to (the then BCCI secretary) N Srinivasan's office and he sanctioned Rs 5 lakh in 2009. After that, I haven't received anything from the Board. I wanted to convert the method from the present format to a better one so that it would be easy for stakeholders to use it.ā€

Infact, the civil engineer revealed that he has a new version of the method in which he has introduced the concept of 'Make-up Factor' which aims at reducing the advantage or disadvantage for a team while revising the target score in an interrupted match.

"If this has to materialise, I need more funds. I hope BCCI sanctions financial aid," he signed off.
