VIDEO | Gurinder Sandhu kicks his pads after running himself out in a typical Aussie brainfade

I had a pact not to use the word 'Brain-fade' for any Aussie but pardon me this time, I really couldn’t think of anything else after watching this. Gurinder Sandhu ended his innings in embarrassing fashion as he was mid-stride with both feet and the bat in the air when the furniture was disturbed.

In the match between Tasmania and Queensland - two underdog teams in the Marsh Cup One-day tournament - the latter had an upper hand when Sandhu entered the fray at No.8. Never a natural with the bat, the Blacktown cricketer exceeded all expectations by registering a maiden List A half-century. In what should have been a day to cheer for him, he would much rather be remembered by his dismissal - thanks to an absolute brain fade from his part.

Batting on 49, Sandhu smacked Xavier Bartlett in a pretty confident manner and with a single, he completed his fifty. There was an easy three on offer and Sandhu was in no mood to let that go. By the time Charlie Hemphrey could collect and throw it back to the stumps in order to inflict a run-out, Sandhu was on course to complete his third run.

However, what had happened after that was embarrassing or downright, unacceptable from an experienced cricketer like him. With the ball coming towards the stumps, Sandhu didn’t bother sliding his bat into the crease. Such was his confidence that Hemphrey’s throw knocked the bails off when Sandhu was mid-stride with both feet in the air and over the line .

Had he planted his foot at least once, it would have saved him. But as it turned it, he had forgotten to do that and by the time, Hemphrey’s throw could knock him out, his one foot was behind the crease. While Alan Border was heavy on him on-air, Sandhu was also disappointed on himself for squandering what was a dream batting performance by his standards.
