Lance Klusener named head coach of Afghanistan team

Former South African all rounder Lance Klusener has been named as the head coach for the Afghanistan national cricket team. Klusener comes into this role as an experienced veteran having coached different teams across the world both in terms of the franchise and international cricket.

Klusener's resume includes a few impressive stints with some of the most successful teams from across the world. He was part of the Mumbai Indians and the Dolphins cricket team in franchise cricket. Additionally, he has also worked with the respective cricket boards of South Africa and Zimbabwe serving different roles.

The Afghanistan cricket board started seeking job applicants for the post of the head coach for the Afghanistan team, after the end of the tenure of former coach, Phil Simmons. Klusener managed to beat out more than 50 applicants for this post. Klusener also holds a four-star certification as a coach and is well regarded as a mentor in by many cricketers.

"Lance Klusener is a renowned name in the cricketing world. It will be great to see our players benefit from his vast experience both as a player and a coach." Lutfullah Stanikzai, ACB's CEO, said on Friday (September 27) as quoted by cricbuzz.

Kulusner's first task as coach would be to lead the team into the series agaist West Indies, that is set to begin in November, later this year.

"I am extremely excited and honored to be given the opportunity to work with some of the best talents in world cricket," said Klusener of his appointment. "Everyone knows the fearless brand of cricket Afghanistan plays. I am very confident that with some hard work we can become one of the best sides in the world. I am really looking forward to working with the Afghanistan team and helping them take their cricket to the next level."
