When things aren’t going your way, even luck seems to conspire against you. Such was the case for Papua New Guinea in their dismal outing against Afghanistan at Trinidad, where Norman Vanua's streak of poor form continued with an unfortunate run-out as his bat got stuck at the crease.

‌Afghanistan had a fantastic start after winning the toss and electing to field. Fazalhaq Farooqi and Naveen-ul-Haq dismantled Papua New Guinea’s top order, leaving them reeling at 39/5 in just eight overs. The woes for the Oceania-based team continued as they succumbed to some brilliant Afghan fielding, including an unfortunate run-out.

On the first ball of the 13th over, Azmatullah Omarzai bowled a good-length delivery on the stumps to Norman Vanua. Vanua pushed the ball straight to mid-on and set off for a quick single, with his partner Kiplin Doriga also committing to the run. Meanwhile, Afghan skipper Rashid Khan, quick on his feet, rushed to the ball and threw it at the stumps at the bowler’s end. Uncertainty loomed as on-field umpire Michael Gough sent the decision upstairs for review.

The replay revealed Vanua’s misfortune, as he slid his bat into the crease, it got stuck, causing him to lose control just centimetres short of the line. This unfortunate dismissal sent Vanua back to the pavilion, igniting a frenzy on Twitter.

Bad day for him!

Surprising isn't it!

It wasn't his day!

Rashid went wicketless!

They weren't giving enough chances!

PNG batted really well on some difficult deliveries!

That was tough!

Rashid goes without a wicket after 4 overs!

Hahaha yeah!
